오일 파스텔과 아크릴 물감 Oil pastel & Acrylic paint, 2020

아이들의 안타까운 사연들을 읽고 난 후, 꿈도 제대로 펼쳐보지도 못할 어린 나이에 많은 고난과 시련들을 겪었을 것이라는 생각에 매우 안타까웠고 분하였다. 작품 작업을 시작하기 전, 우선 어떻게 작품을 표현을 해야 아이들이 보고 위로를 받고 공감을 할까에 초점을 맞췄다.

나는 여러 고민 끝에 주변 사람들이 수감자 자녀 아이들에게 주는 부정적인 시선들, 그리고 아이들의 심리상태를 중심으로 작품을 만들기 시작했다. 우선 아이들의 초점을 상징하는 눈은, 어두운 색깔들을 띈 파스텔로 눈꺼풀을 칠하였고,밝은색들의 아크릴 물감으로 눈동자를 표현했다. 눈 상단에 있는 배경은 어두운 색깔들을 조합하여 아크릴로 거친 질감을 표현하였고, 하단은 노란색 계열의 색들의 배경과 아이들을 부정적으로 바라보는 고정관념을 가진 사람들을 표현하고자 다양한 방향을 가리키는 손들을 그렸다. 어두운 색을 지닌 눈꺼풀은 부정적으로 바라보는 사람들로 인한 상처로 해석할수 있지만, 밝은색을 지닌 눈동자는 아이들의 마음속에 있는 수많은 희망들과 꿈들로 해석할수 있다. 눈 하단과 상단의 배경은 부정적인 감정들과 긍정적인 감정들이 교차되는 것을 상징한다.

After reading about the sad circumstances of the children, I felt frustrated that I must have experienced many hardships and trials when I was a young boy who could not even expand my dream. Before starting the work, I focused on how to express the work to comfort and empathize with the children.

After thinking about it, I began to focus on the negative views that the people around me give to the children in prison and the psychological state of the children. The eyes that symbolize the children's focus were painted with dark pastels and bright acrylic paint. The background at the top of the eyes is a combination of dark colors to express a rough texture, and the bottom is a yellow background and a hand that shows various directions to express people with stereotypes who view children negatively. Eyelids with dark colors can be interpreted as wounds caused by negative viewers, but eyes with bright colors can be interpreted as hopes and dreams in children's minds. The background below and above the eyes symbolizes a mixture of negative and positive emotions.
