대부분의 아이들은 유치원 혹은 초등학교에 들어가기 전 부모님이나 가족에게 한글을 배운다. 하지만 어떤 아이들은 한부모가정, 조부모, 양육자, 센터 등의 환경에서 자라게 된다. 그래서 다른 아이들에게는 당연한 교육의 기회를 얻기 쉽지 않으며 학습에 대한 관심도도 현저히 적어 초등학교 2, 3학년, 늦게는 4학년까지도 글을 읽지 못하는 경우가 있다고 한다.

이 프로젝트는 형태를 알아볼 수 없고 뜻을 유추할 수 없는 글자를 통해 우리가 그 아이들의 시선을 체험하고, 이 아이들의 상황을 체감하며 공감하는 것이 목적이다. 아이들이 생활 속에서 주로 볼 수 있는 교과서, 옷, 가방, 과자 등에 알 수 없는 글자들이 써져 있다. 대부분의 사람들은 읽을 수 없는 글자가 쓰여 있더라도 이것이 어떠한 뜻인지 경험을 통해 알 수 있을 것이다. 하지만 아이들은 아직 어리고 경험이 적어 그것도 어렵다. 이렇게 열악한 학습환경에 놓인 아이들이 존재한다는 것을 모두가 인식하고 있기만 해도 나는 그 아이들의 미래가 더 나아질 것이라고 생각한다.

Most children learn Hangul from their parents or family members before entering kindergarten or elementary school. However, some children grow up in an environment of single-parent families, grandparents, caregivers, and centers. Therefore, it is not easy for other children to get a natural educational opportunity and their interest in learning is so low that even the second and third grades of elementary school and the fourth graders cannot read.

The purpose of the project is to experience the children's eyes, feel their situation, and sympathize with them through letters that cannot be identified and their meaning can't be inferred. Unknown letters are written in textbooks, clothes, bags, and snacks that children usually see in their daily lives. Most people will know from experience what this means even if there are unreadable letters. But children are still young and inexperienced, so that's also difficult. I think the future of these children will be better if everyone recognizes that there are children in such poor learning conditions.
